The ACDEC Hospitality Committee needs your help! Senator Obama’s campaign has dispatched an unprecedented number of volunteers to Florida to turn out the voters on November 4th! Most are unpaid. We have worked at housing the volunteers and are preparing two meals a day, breakfast (9 am) and supper (7 pm) at Obama headquarters at 901 NW 8th Ave. Please help! All Democrats are encouraged to attend an activist and canvassing at the Democratic Party office. Each includes two, one-hour sessions. Gov. Howard Dean, DNC Chair, and Frank Farhenkopf, former RNC Chair, will speak at Pugh Hall on Friday, Sept. 5th, at 4 pm to discuss the primaries in Florida for the 2008 election. Tickets are free and can be picked up at Graham Hall.

The Alachua County Democratic Party’s Outstanding Democrats Luncheon was a resounding success! The following people won awards. Harry Truman “The Buck Stops Here” Award (to a male elected official): Von Fraser, Alachua Co. Tax Collector. Eleanor Roosevelt Award (to a female elected official): Representative Debbie Boyd. Democrat of the Year Award: Staci Fox. Award for Sustained Service to the Democratic Party: David Chalmers. Unsung Hero Awards: Mae Leone, Stewart Neilson, Elizabeth Powers, Kathleen Shiverick, Bill Wrighton and Evelyn Foxx. Congratulations!
